A Celebration of Life

Today is a Celebration of Life for my mother.

Mom, 1988

She passed away on February 17th.
We postponed the service so that friends and family
who live far away could be a part of it.
It has been on my mind for weeks.
I thought that writing the euology might be difficult,
but in the end, it just flowed out, easily.

I hope that along with the tears today
there will also be laughter.
I am sure there will be, as several of mom's
friends will be sharing memories of her,
many of which are irrevrent and funny.
There will be faces there that I have not
seen since High School, and friends of
my parents whom I haven't seen in many years.
A number of shops up and down Front Street
where her antique store is will be closed,
as the shopkeepers attend the service.

I am so thankful for the family and friends
that will be there today to remember her.
I think it will be those faces that will give me the
strength I will need to get through the euology.
I am also appreciative of my best friend and a
friend from high school for agreeing to read two poems today.

I am also appreciative of those extended family
who are thinking of her and my family today,
as well as my Blogland friends who have read all of my posts
the last month or so since she passed.
My blog is essentially my journal, and my
writing my thoughts about her has helped me to mourn her.

I think it is fitting that yesterday
was the Vernal Equinox.
Mom loved Spring, and the lilacs that came with it.
This will be a good day to welcome Spring
and say goodbye to my Mom.

Thinking of you Allison and wishing you courage. She won't be far away as you give thanks for her life and her love.

Very nicely written, Allison. I am sure the eulogy you have prepared will be a culmination of the past month of thinking deeply about your mother, and will reflect all those inner thoughts that flow to the surface.
