Take a boy that is obsessed with space, add some sidewalk chalk and a sunny day and 3-2-1 LIFT OFF!!! Here is one of the rockets he drew this week. (Ahem--I am not sure which way is up, so use your imagination.)
Here is another:
Here is one of mine that James added more flames to (in blue):
And an alien spaceship that he added pink flames to:
After more rockets and aliens were drawn, we started a super-sized word find thingy. He has been enjoying word finds, so I started by asking him to give me a space word, then another, and we linked them all together.
Make no mistake--this kid is reading these words, no problem! (Nice, but does he listen? No. Is he nice to his sister? No. Does he pick up his dirty clothes? No. But one step at a time, right?) Here is a big view of the whole shebang:
(Yes, here is Ella dashing thru, about to run and draw on the house, the garage, the swingset and the Adirondack chairs with chalk. SO CUTE!!!!)
I asked him what his favorite space word was on the word search and he ROLLED HIS EYES and said "C'mon Mom!!! Pluto, OF COURSE!!!")
Does it get any better than this? My heart will simply BURST if it does.

I love it! It's so great when you have an activity that is inspiring, fun and educational! See you soon!
What a budding artist you have there! How fun that word jumble must have been to create. :c)
Oh, how I miss drawing with sidewalk chalk with my kids!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. ;) So cool that James is reading. I have to warn you, though, as the mom of an early reader: beware of rude grafitti when your child reads it off (loudly) and asks you what it means. LOL!
Courtenay--looking forward to it!
Jayne--Ahhh . . . Word Jumble!!! That's what I was trying to think of (so much more eloquent than "thingy", tee hee).
Teresa--NO KIDDING! I just posted a photo on my Facebook wall of a car that was parked outside James' school this week, with a "Masshole" bumper sticker. Come on people!!!!
your kids are adorable !!!
oh and i love the spelling idea - my sons not the best at spelling - might be a good idea to copy
