Cotton Ticking Cafe Curtains

Here's a glimpse of what I was working on yesterday!

I've been chomping at the bit to sew some curtains for my kitchen window--it was just a matter of finding the right fabric. At one point I was in the fabric store taking pictures of swatches with my phone and discussing choices with Chris--this is the one we agreed on--I think it is called Syndey Lane Sun Blue.

This cotton ticking has that vintage, sun-worn feel that I love, and I think it compliments all of the little blue touches that fill my kitchen, and the butter yellow paint on the walls.

It's one thing to buy window treatments ready-made, its quite another to plan, measure, shop for fabric, cut, iron, and sew your own. I'm not sure it's a cheaper option than buying ready-made, but the smile on my face as Chris hung them made the whole process worth it!

Yay!! They look great, Allison!

I think curtains are a big pain in the butt. I hate hemming anything, really, but it is worth it in the end.

Love your new header, too. That pic is so great.

cute!! have you been to osgood's yet?

Thanks Stephanie--yes, I learned that on the sides following the stripes, hemming was easy, but against the stripes I was riddled with angst about my straight line (okay, maybe not "riddled" but I was nervous! Chris took that photo of a cardinal in the backyard. I am in LOVE with it.

Flannery--would you believe I drove over to Osgoods on Saturday while Chris watched the kids, I was so looking forward to walking around and touching everything, taking my time with no one screaming, or running or what have you and THEY WERE CLOSED!!! I was MAD. I ended up going to Jo-ann in Holyoke. That was interesting--but they did have just what I was looking for.

The curtains are fabulous and everytime you stand at your sink you will know that you made them and smile inside! xxx

I agree with Stephanie: the header pic is fabulous!

I made curtains for the boys' room when we moved to this house...it is such a feeling of satisfaction, isn't it? :)

You're such a talented and creative seamstress. I've never made curtains (although one time I hung raw silk I found in a bargain bin over a rod and duct-taped the edges back as panels--isn't that horrible?? They actually look really good, and are still hanging in my dining room!).

Also...I LOVE, love, love your new banner. Red is fluffed up so nicely and perfectly complements your new look! :-)

p.s. I love your "January" illustration.

p.s. again...is that saltware under your window? I have collected a lot of saltware from Salmon Falls Stoneware, Dover N.H. with the same pattern.

Daisie and Teresa--yes, what a great feeling of satisfaction (even if all I had to do was hem four sides of each panel, LOL), and I am smiling everytime I see them!

Thanks Reg! I want you to see them in person!!!

Hi Kelly--thought you might like my Cardinal! I'll have to ask my dad about the pottery--he gave it to me for Christmas and probably picked it up at a little shop in Brunswick, ME.

Hi Allison,
It was fun playing catch up on your blog. The curtains look wonderful, I love the colors! Your little ones are just as adorable as ever and little Ella is getting big.
Thanks for stopping by my blog for a visit and leaving such a sweet comment. The picture of your cardinal is awesome! The blue jays have scared ours away, I think. I haven't seen him in a couple of weeks. :(
Blessings to you and your family.
Birgit
